The men cry for Jesus to help them, and Jesus calms the sea:

With loving speed the Lord arose
And bade the sea be still;
The winds are hushed, the waves repose
Obedient to his will.

And even after that, faith was still weak. This is a story of faith, like the book of Job. God sent satan to test Job, knowing Job's strong faith in God. With the loss of his family, a scaring dieses, and his friends trying to convince him that he either sinned or God pays him no attention, Job still keeps his faith in God, knowing that God knows best. It is unknown when he wrote this but he might have written it in Australia during his search for meaning; his toil, and his faith, through a long and dangerous voyage.
