Charles
Fenerty spent eight years traveling the world.
His adventure led him to the mine fields where
he wrote his three part canto. In his words
one senses that Fenerty was on a quest for knowledge.
He thought of his journey as a pilgrimage; something
that we all must do if one seeks to understand.
This poem is undated, but it was likely written
after he returned from his adventures. Almost
immediately Fenerty found himself back in Church
affairs. Just a few months after he returned
his name appeared in a letter to Rev. J.S. Smith
that was published in the British Colonist on
March 31, 1866 asking for Rev. Smith to continue
with his Ministry in the Sackville area (see
article).

This
poem might have appeared in a newspaper after
1866. The poem start off:
O
Gracious God! through every stage,
Of my allotted pilgrimage,
Be thou my help, my guide, my stay,
Guard thou my footsteps lest I stray.
